Roads (Recommendation 6)
This committee will deal with maintenance and safety issues on roads within the sub-rural area.
Quarterly meetings are arranged with Kenton County Public Works and Kenton County Police.
Chair: Kathy Donohoue
The roads committee has developed a productive working relationship with Kenton County Public Works and Kenton County Police. Kenton County Public Works serves as a communication go-between with Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC). The following are some of the concerns the roads committee has brought to attention.
Kenton County Road Reporter
- A desire to allow residents to report road maintenance issues led to the development of Kenton County Road Reporter. All residents of Kenton County can use this system to report road maintenance issues and the report will be directed to the appropriate state, county or municipality. Photos can be uploaded.
- The Planning and Development Services of Kenton County created a Kenton County map that has each road in the County listed with contact information for the municipality responsible for its maintenance. View the Road Maintenance Map.

2019 - School Bus Driver Survey
- With the cooperation of Kenton County Schools, a survey was given to school bus drivers. The survey questioned bus drivers as to safety and maintenance concerns on their routes. Kenton County Public Works has been steadily addressing these concerns. Work completed to improve sight line on Rich Road is an example of the many improvements from this survey.
Targeted Areas:
- The intersection of Moffett and Madison Road
- KYTC corrected this sight line issue.
- Intersection of Hwy 25 and Bracht Piner Road
- Design study financed by Kenton County has been completed to improve sight line. KYTC will be responsible for approval and completion of work.
- S curve at top of Staffordsburg
- Design study in process to improve safety financed by Kenton County. KYTC will be responsible for approval and completion of work.
- Bracht Piner, Carlisle Road
- These curves were a high safety concern. Kenton County Police assisted with data collection in 2022 and surveillance. Caution signage was installed. Accidents have markedly decreased.
- 536 Visalia Hill
- Kenton County Public Works has made big improvements to the Visalia Hill
- Route 177, (Decoursey)
- Despite many improvements by KYTC, this low-lying road continues to be a maintenance problem.
- Intersection of 536 (Visalia and (177 (Decoursey)
- KYTC has added this to their project list to improve sight line.
