Each new year invites us to look back with gratitude while focusing on the possibilities ahead. For Kenton County, this reflection is especially meaningful. The past year was one of momentum and collaboration.
Exciting Projects in 2025
We made exciting progress in supporting the entrepreneurs and innovators who fuel our local economy. With the launch of SparkHaus this September, Kenton County now offers a dedicated space for big ideas to flourish. SparkHaus gives entrepreneurs access to the tools, mentorship and support they need to turn dreams into real businesses. We know that strong communities grow from both major regional projects and the success of local people determined to make something new. SparkHaus reflects our belief that the next great Kentucky story may already be taking shape in the minds of residents right here at home.
2025 also marked a significant step forward in partnership with our cities through the creation of the Community Redevelopment Fund. This fund was designed with a simple goal: to support meaningful local projects that might otherwise remain out of reach. Whether it’s transforming public spaces, revitalizing neighborhood corridors or accelerating development opportunities, these investments help cities move forward with confidence. Already, Independence, Erlanger, Taylor Mill and Fort Wright have benefitted from this support, and their efforts showcase the impact this fund will continue to have across our County.
The Community Redevelopment Fund builds on our existing $13 million Site Development Fund, which we’ve used to bring projects to life in Fort Mitchell and Elsmere. We continue to look for new and innovative ways to deploy these funds to their highest use.
As we look to 2026, our dedication to building a vibrant, thriving Kenton County remains strong. The coming year will bring new opportunities to reinforce our position as the Commonwealth’s best place to live, work and raise a family.
More on the Horizon
One major project on the horizon is the groundbreaking for the Commonwealth Center for Biomedical Excellence. This effort will bring more than 600 students, faculty and staff from Northern Kentucky University’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law and the University of Kentucky’s College of Medicine – Northern Kentucky to Kenton County, strengthening local businesses and energizing the surrounding community. Just as important, it will serve as a training ground for the next generation of lawyers, doctors and health care leaders.
We are also preparing to break ground on Kenton County’s flagship park in Independence, our largest investment yet in outdoor recreation and quality of life. This park will offer new ways for families to explore nature, gather with friends, enjoy recreation and experience the beauty that defines our County. Parks are more than green spaces; they are cornerstones of healthy communities. This flagship park will stand as a testament to our commitment to providing enriching spaces for residents of every age.
As an added bonus, the Fiscal Court lowered our County property tax rate for the fifth consecutive year this August. We now have the lowest County tax rate since 1983.
Every initiative we take on is rooted in our responsibility to the people of Kenton County. We remain committed to using tax dollars wisely, planning thoughtfully for the future and ensuring our work strengthens every corner of our community.
As we welcome this new year, I remain deeply grateful for your trust and partnership. The progress of 2025 was made possible by dedicated public servants, engaged residents and strong partnerships with city leaders across the County. The successes of 2026 will be built in that same spirit.
Thank you for allowing us to serve you. We look forward to the year ahead with optimism, determination and a steadfast belief in the bright future of Kenton County.
