Kenton County cuts property-tax rate for fourth consecutive year

The Kenton County Fiscal Court unanimously voted on Tuesday, Aug. 27, to reduce the 2024 real property-tax rate by 6%. This is the fourth consecutive year the Fiscal Court has cut its rate.

Kenton County reduced its real property-tax rate to 12.5 cents per $100 of valuation from 13.3 cents. That is the lowest rate since 1983.

“For two years, we’ve worked to rebalance our revenue system so the tax burden is taken off Kenton County homeowners,” Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann said. “Now we’re seeing the results of those efforts, with the recent rate reductions.”

Commissioner Beth Sewell added: “I am pleased we were able to reduce the County’s portion of our residents’ property-tax bill again. We’re committed to giving them the best community possible while offering a low tax burden.”

“We want to make Kenton County the most attractive place to live in Kentucky. Keeping our property-tax rate low levels the playing field with our neighboring counties,” Commissioner Jon Draud said.

“Our residents look to us to ensure we’re using their tax dollars appropriately. Our ability to consistently lower the County’s portion of residents’ property-tax bill, while providing a high quality of services, shows them we’re doing just that,” Commissioner Joe Nienaber said.

In October 2023, the Fiscal Court approved legislation to lower the County’s occupational tax rate, while also eliminating the County’s net profits tax.
