[ARCHIVED] Kenton County offers free holiday light recycling

Holiday light

Have your holiday lights lost their twinkle? Well, Kenton County is now offering you a way to let that seasonal joy live on, with our annual holiday light recycling program.

Kenton County Solid Waste Management is once again partnering with Cohen Recycling, the city of Covington and Keep Covington Beautiful to collect and properly recycle old holiday lights.

From Dec. 1, 2023 through Jan. 31, 2024, all holiday lights (traditional and LED style bulbs) will be accepted at various drop-off locations throughout Northern Kentucky, including 11 in Kenton County.

  • Covington City Hall, 20 W. Pike Street
  • Covington Fire Department – Station 5, 1255 Hands Pike, Covington
  • The Center for Great Neighborhoods, 321 W. 12th Street, Covington
  • Kenton County Government Center, 1840 Simon Kenton Way, Covington
  • Kenton County Public Works, 420 Independence Station Road, Independence
  • Edgewood City Building, 385 Dudley Road, Edgewood
  • Erlanger City Building, 505 Commonwealth Avenue, Erlanger
  • Fort Mitchell City Building, 2355 Dixie Highway, Fort Mitchell
  • Fort Wright City Building, 9 Kyles Lane, Fort Wright
  • Independence City Building, 5409 Madison Pike, Independence
  • Taylor Mill City Building, 5225 Taylor Mill Road, Taylor Mill

Before bringing your string lights, please remove ALL hooks, batteries and ornaments. This event is for lights only so please recycle any light boxes at home.

And this year, Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties have re-upped their friendly race to see which can collect the most holiday lights. In last year’s competition, Kenton County took home the top prize, with all three counties collectively diverting more than 3,000 pounds of holiday lights from the landfill.
