The Patrol Division is made up of several subsections, the largest being Patrol which gives the division its name. Other sections and programs within the Patrol Division are Honor Guard, K9, School Resource Officers, Fire Investigation, Firearms, Crowd Control, Defensive Tactics, and the Field Training Program.
Patrol is the largest and most critical section of the Kenton County Police and is responsible for providing a variety of services to the public from call response to traffic enforcement. The critical nature of patrol means it is staffed at all times regardless of holidays, weather, or unforeseen circumstances. Patrol is also the most visible face of the police department and what people most commonly associate with police work.
The Kenton County Fire Investigation Team (KCFIT) operates as a task force under the direction of the Kenton County Police with members from multiple police and fire agencies throughout the county. The primary purpose of the team is to assist local fire departments in determining the origin and cause of fires. This involves the scientific process of examining the evidence from the fire and understanding the signs of smoke, heat, and fire on the structure to determine where and how the fire originated.
A K9 team consists of a canine and his handler. The Kenton County Police currently has one team.
The primary role of the Honor Guard is to provide honors to our fallen comrades during funeral services. They also serve as the “Color Guard” by displaying and escorting the national and state flags during official ceremonies.
Patrol is also where every officer begins their career with the Kenton County Police by being placed in the Field Training Program.
